He tends to go every thirty minutes if you take him, but still doesn't want to tell you if he needs to go? I have taken over the duties for the next two days in order to Give Naomi a break, but I don't know if it is going to work. I have tried the reward chart, sticker after sticker, candy, toys and almost everything else you can think of. I have read the postings, blogs and other information, but I just don't know if I'm doing it right. Why can't my boy tell me "I need to Potty!" Is this really suppose to be so difficult and last so long. It seems we have gone four weeks now and we have some good days, but that is the days that we take him every 30 minutes. School is coming up soon and I want him ready by mid-august. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Been awhile

Been a long time since I have posted actually almost two years, but with the recent turmoil in the SN's Blogger World, it makes me want to write a little more and share the journey with others.

First off, don't trust people on the Internet. It's was 8 weeks pre-mature, but we were starting to see the same things happen right before we lost Griffin, and this time we had a doctor that would listen. So it was time. At 7:00 am Mom was in for delivery and I was putting on the scrubs with my sister and Naomi's Sister and then in we went. The doctor had already made the primary cut when I first walked in and I went to the wrong side of the table. What a way to see your wife in a whole new light!

Things went smooth and Mya was delivered, but taken soon after to Cook's Children Hospital for the next 17 days. He has been sick since Thursday night. Every feed I had given him had gone right through and he had diahrea within the hour. He was on Pedialyte only, all of yesterday. My parents helped because Matthew was working. My dad took Mya home and watched her while my mom stayed at the hospital. When Matthew came to relieve us from the hospital my mom and I came home to Mya who had been throwing up! So Mya has got the stomach bug that Aidan has. I’ve been able to get enough liquid down Mya that I am feeling good about her recovery but she is still very sick and weak. Needless to say she must stay home tomorrow. Aidan has a bit longer road ahead of him, His kidneys have had some trouble handling the dehydration so he is staying tonight as well and they will re-test his blood work in the morning. We think he is doing really well though at recovering. As far as Baylor I have to see if they will let him come in to the program later in the week. What a crazy weekend!

<img style="float:left; Hope you enjoy the music, the first song is one that we used during Griffin's memorial, it's a song that really touches our hearts and got us through his loss. For now work is calling and I have multiple bags to unpack, two kids to attend too and a job that starts again in a few hours. I now know what they mean when they say "I need a vacation from the vacation."

No Worries

Well Aidan did remarkably well and it only took about 15 minutes. This has resulted in some bad irritation on his skin around the stoma. At the moment they are treating it like Jock Itch with some Anti-Fungal powder, but maybe his GI will prescribe something more effective. Over all the family is in good health with a few sniffs and sneezes. We are getting closer and closer to our date with Ariel and all her friends. I think we have planned enough special activities to make this trip special and now wait for it all to fall in place. I do have a surprise or two in store for the whole family if it all works out, but we shall see. If anyone has any advice for DisneyWorld we would be happy to hear it.

Mya's true Make A Wish

So below you will find out what an impact Mya has had on the Magic Kingdom, thanks to Make A Wish.

Appointment with a State Representative

Well my day has been interesting... I met with my local state representative an individual whom I didn't vote for in the recent election, but won none the less. So I figured I might want to sit down with him and discuss the conversations I had with his competitor about Cochlear Implants.

What I wanted to discuss was having a bill passed similar to one in Oregon that states if an insurance company is willing to pay for one Cochlear Implant, then they must fund the second if deemed medically beneficial. I mean if a child or an adult is missing two legs they will cover both, so why not both ears. I wasn't sure what he would say or if he would be willing. He was ready to write the bill, then and there, and start working on getting it done before May. I was impressed, he enjoys fighting insurance he said so we will see if he's all talk or really out to support the hearing impaired.

During our discussion we spoke about the economy, our local school district and such. I mentioned how I had been unemployed for quite some time and recently took a position with a high end grocer here in town. Well it seems the CEO of said company is one of his biggest supporters. He asked if his writing a letter to said individual would help me. I told him it probably wouldn't hurt and he is going to draft a letter to be sent in the next week. This may help me move into management much quicker, we shall see. He stated he was impressed with my desire to help others, even though my child already has both implants. That was nice to hear.

It really is amazing how the Lord works, last night I was kind of down about this whole thing, but a few prayers and time can really change things.

Mya is SIX

Off to school, but she is growing up!

Happy Halloween

Man I really need to do more of this blogging and not so much other internet hunting. I have still not been present for the actual removal and only hear, "Got It". No one tells me whats going on. This one bled like crazy though and we had to use quite a bit of gauze. I do recommend the ice trick though. Placing ice at the base for a few moments and then pulling when it's ready sure makes it go smoother. She does not feel a thing and does not cry either.

Tomorrow I plan on contacting my state representative again. I am not sure how much you know about advancements with the hearing impaired, but it truly is amazing what can now be done these days through modern medicine. The problem is that insurance companies are more worried about the bottom line then the welfare of the leaders of tomorrow. My point is this as I know you’re very busy. I would like for you to do what is necessary to help insure that all children that meet criteria could have the chance to hear out of both ears. Most insurance companies are only willing to pay for ONE implant in a child, while most children, actually ALL children have TWO ears. Just recently in Oregon they passed:

O.R.S. § 743A.140 Bilateral cochlear implants; coverage

(1) Whenever any policy of health insurance provides for reimbursement of a cochlear implant, the insured under the policy is entitled to coverage of bilateral cochlear implants.

(2) For purposes of ORS 746.230, a reasonable investigation of a claim for bilateral cochlear implants must include a request to the treating surgeon for a written recommendation based on peer-reviewed medical literature and for the medical findings that support the recommendation.

(3) The provisions of this section apply to a health benefit plan as defined in ORS 743.730.

(4) The provisions of this section are exempt from ORS 743A.001.

Added by Laws 2007, c. 504, § 2, eff. Jan. 1, 2008.

I don’t really know how you present by laws during session, or if I’m asking the right things, but this is something I feel needs to be done and thought I would start with you. I am lucky, my insurance company did approve my Child's second implant and today he is learning to speak and hear like other children his age, but there are many adults and children unlike him who fight insurance everyday. Please consider this when deciding what to present and support this year. I will be asking friends and family all across this Great State of Texas to carry this flag in order to assist all children and adults that can not hear. My great, great, great, great, grandmother Sarah Dodson once created a flag and many recognize it as the First Flag of Texas, where it was carried to the battle of Concepción and the siege of Bexar. It is also said to have flown over the building where the Convention of 1836 met and declared independence from Mexico. This will be my flag and I plan to wave it just as proudly and declare independence for those wishing to hear with both ears.

I would enjoy having the opportunity to sit down and speak with you about this and look forward to your response.

Best Regards,

Matthew McIntosh

Will it be answered we shall see, will anything be done about it after that who knows, but I have decided that somethings need to be fought for and this in my opinion is one of them. Maybe this whole blogging thing will make me speak out more. If you are interested in writing your state representative as well, feel free to pull from the Oregon Statute.

A little background...

Naomi and I (Matthew) met in 1996 at Warner Bros. Studio Stores where I was working after college. A month later we were engaged and married seven months later in January of '97. We have had the joy of being blessed with three children. Our first we only got to enjoy on earth for a very short time as he was Stillborn at 32 weeks. Our second who is footsteps in our title was also born at 32 weeks, but spent a short time in the NICU, before coming home. She has a mild form of Cerebral Palsy that affects only her legs, but is bright as the sun in everything else. Our third child spent the most time in the NICU at seven and a half months. During this time he lost all hearing, we believe to the medication needed to save his life. This is our third miracle baby and without his cochlear implants, lives in a silent world. The pictures were taken in July of this year.

The First Entry

Naomi and I have decided to enter the world of blogging.
